The forklift is a material handling equipment used to raise and transport loads from one place to another. Each part of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts could be utilized to move the load either horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lift and lower the load. There are various types of masts for lifting loads to various heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is situated in the cab under the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the back of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is positioned within the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated in the cab.
Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest components of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are situated at the rear to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the driveshaft, axles and wheels.
